Desert Quill Quartet is a collective of performer-composers with a unique sonic spread and new repertoire to enliven chamber music. Their genre-defying music incorporates elements of experimental, folk, classical, ambient, drone, minimalist, and groove music. Their open-minded approach to their art has also led to multidisciplinary work with dance and film. Eager to engage with community, the Desert Quill Quartet enjoys putting on performances that are diverse, intriguing, and imaginative.
talkingtalkingensemble is a group of friends who are committed to the act of “talkingtalking”: a way of collective talking that may be more than talking, less than talking, or just simply talking. Having started in 2016, this group of friends are still friends, and enjoy any and every opportunity to practice talkingtalking. Imperfectly speaking, talkingtalking may take on many formats and modes, but practitioners of talkingtalking usually seek to attain something or reach someplace which may otherwise be unavailable or nonexistent without going through the act and experience of talkingtalking.
I Ain’t Got No Spare: Inspired by Charles Burnett’s film, Killer of Sheep, this music and video-based performance explores themes of the Black experience in 1970’s Los Angeles and the ephemerality of Black agency. Performers will include Chris Ryan Williams (trumpet/compositions), Kozue Matsumoto (koto), Davy Sumner (sound design/fx) Ben Finley (acoustic Bass), Keane Nwede (vocals), Dwight Trible (vocals), and Laura Sofía Pérez (video/fx).
